I was sorta trying to figure out if he meant 1953 or 1964! I haven't heard of a break, I do see that he is credited with one Sunday (or I should say at least one Sunday), I'm not sure when the Sunday's ended (some do say 1964 as well).

I wish I had the beans to spill but Olesen didn't name names. Was there ever a break in publication, as he states?

Needs clarification! The statement that " until the owner of the syndicate (of Red Ryder) died suddenly and it was discovered that the second in charge had been embezzling funds for years, bankrupting the company." The daily Red Ryder strip ended in late 1964, with strips being signed by Bob McLeod. Red Ryder (and Ozark Ike) were owned by Stephen Slesinger, Inc. and was syndicated for it's last 16 years by McNaught. One of the co-owners of McNaught did die in 1964, but the syndicate continued for another 25 years (however "Dear Abby" did switch from to Universal in 1966). The other partner was rather prominent in hobnobbing with politicians, etc.
Slesinger died in 1953, but the company continues (see the long round of lawsuits with Disney over Winnie-the-Pooh rights). So spill the beans, who done it?
